Renting versus Buying Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Leasing as opposed to Buying - Essay Example a house and really own it since it is an image of one’s character and relationship with a spot, however this is unquestionably impractical for everybody given the shifting money related conditions and individual restrictions. Indeed, a dominant part of individuals in the cutting edge social orders have great and substantial motivations to lease a house as opposed to getting one. Possessing a house can be a dangerous business. It requires a ton of venture with respect to the proprietor and has less to ensure that the speculation would at last demonstrate justified, despite all the trouble. On the off chance that one needs to bring in cash out of the matter of property, it is basic that one sits tight for whatever length of time that the costs of the land and the property rise adequately up to guarantee an attractive benefit. In a lion's share of cases, this occurs over a significant stretch of time and one needs to sit tight for a really long time. It requires responsibility and dedication. Claiming a house is unquestionably not a shrewd choice to make on the off chance that one can not by one way or another clutch it for a significant timeframe. It turns out to be considerably increasingly grievous in the event that one had initially chosen to get it financed by means of a bank or some other wellspring of whole. For a person to offer a house without sitting tight for long, who at first made an up front installment worth 10% of the absolute cost, it would be expensive since he/she would be required to leave behind an impressive rate in the commissions of the genuine state. The end expenses to be offered to the dealer would be notwithstanding that. An even drop measure of the up front installment would bring about a significantly more prominent misfortune to the dealer. Such a hit to the merchant is sufficiently enormous to surpass any thankfulness increases made over the property over the time of proprietorship. leasing in the current age given the high measure of vulnerability in the world of politics everywhere throughout the world by and large and in the underdeveloped nations specifically. Climate change Essay Example for Free

Environmental change Essay In this period of industrialization there is no uncertainty that nations are creating as far as assets and innovation yet there are repercussions also. Researchers are of the view that human exercises are adding to an ascent in world temperatures as well as to the extraordinary climatic events. Such climatic actuated cataclysmic events have dislodged numerous individuals from the sanctuary of their homes, have transformed prolific terrains into desolate parts and have caused an exhaustion of new water assets (China advises rich countries to settle up on environmental change, 2008). â€Å"It is anticipated that the normal worldwide temperature will ascend from between 1. 5 and 5 degrees Celsius throughout the following 100 years prompting an ascent in ocean level by one meter or more alongside different awful climatic changes† (Climate Change: Economic Sense and Non-feeling of Carbon Mitigation Policies, 2002). Yet, the present reality is so engaged in arriving at the top most situation among industrialized nations that there is total obliviousness about the reasons for climatic catastrophes. In spite of the fact that there are individuals who accept that the extreme temperature increment in the course of the most recent 100 years is a characteristic wonder, yet the wide larger part of the researchers contend that human exercises are the underlying driver. â€Å"When it was understood that the radical climatic changes are a significant issue and should be handled, the main achievement was propelled in 2005, named as the Kyoto convention which planned for diminishing the gas discharges from industrialized countries† (Pettifor, 2008). In any case, the primary issue with respect to this convention is that a portion of the world’s greatest present and future polluters are not a signatory to this understanding because of which this convention is probably not going to have any effect on the climatic changes (Climate Change, 2008). Populace development in such nations is taking into account the set up of more ventures which will in the long run quicken the issue available. In the event that advances which cause less contamination and are relatively less expensive are made and embraced then even nations which are not dedicated to the climatic change improvement will receive them for their own monetary personal circumstance. Such advancements can be actualized in power creation and transportation on the grounds that these are the two components which add to ecological contamination in every single creating nation. In numerous nations carbon free choices have just been executed for vitality creation and transport purposes and the additional expenses have been viewed as pitiful when contrasted with the advantages. Discharge exchanging is a marvel that takes into consideration the accomplishment of contamination decrease at diminished expenses whereby a nation which can meet its objective of lessening outflows sells its contamination license to another nation which can't meet the objective set (Howden, 2007). Strategies are required both in creating and the created nations to fund the system of sparing the planet. These arrangements incorporate certain motivators and appropriations for the trend-setter who receives the carbon free innovations in his creation plant , assessments and charges upheld on the individuals who neglect to follow the diminished outflow target and furthermore government guidelines that permit expel the boundary to passage for new participants ready to embrace the lower carbon options. In January 2007 the EU set out recommendations for a worldwide concurrence on sparing the planet from further climatic disintegration (Climate Change: Economic Sense and Non-feeling of Carbon Mitigation Policies, 2002). Two key focuses to be met by 2020 were set which remembered a 20% decrease for vitality utilization and utilization of sustainable power source assets to be expanded by 20%. The EU nations likewise dedicated to eliminating ozone harming substance discharges by 30% given that other created nations additionally focus on decreases in gas outflows under a worldwide understanding (Climate Change, 2008). It is the rich nations that should be pressurized to make strides in the alleviation of climatic changes and give money to the more unfortunate nations that might be hesitant to eliminate emanations since it would have unfavorable effects on their economy (Climate Change, 2008). Regardless of the current financial unrest which the whole world is confronting, the U. S has vowed to give appropriations to the vehicle business to assist them with creating green vehicles which will help in making a cleaner and less dirtied condition. This progression taken by the U. S propelled the EU part states to do likewise. Thus the German government is considering offering charge motivations to the overall population to introduce vitality effective warming frameworks in their homes and to buy the carbon free, naturally amicable green vehicles. What's more, the rundown goes not stop here, administrations of various nations are considering giving sponsorships to businesses to deliver green machines, green planes, proficient lighting hardware, and better protection, etc (Howden, 2007). To execute this cash is required which is relied upon to originate from private financial specialists. Later on years it is anticipated that a tremendous bit of government spending will be coordinated towards sparing the earth from climatic changes (Pettifor, 2008). China, one of the most energetic nation in managing the climatic change emergency has underscored on the requirement for rich countries to contribute 1% of their GDP to enable more unfortunate countries to counter the impacts of the extreme climatic changes, to empower them to embrace the ‘green technologies’ and to just help them in handling calamities like tremors, floods, heat waves and dry seasons (China advises rich countries to settle up on environmental change, 2008). A primary human movement which is adding to an Earth-wide temperature boost is deforestation which has been happening worldwide at a huge scope. Carbon discharges brought about by deforestation cause unquestionably more harm then either production lines or vehicles do. Nations are executing exacting guidelines with respect to deforestation and have forced punishments on those enjoying this follow up on lands where it is disallowed. No new innovation is required it is only the authorization approaches, political will and motivators that should be given to government and people the same to cause them to understand the significance of woodlands to the earth. Be that as it may, more unfortunate countries are reluctant to eliminate deforestation since it implies settling on their wellspring of salary and eventually settling on their economy. Ranger service specialists and strategy creators have held gatherings in Germany to attempt to put deforestation on the motivation of UN for managing climatic changes however Papua New Guinea, one of the world’s most unfortunate countries declined to co-work when it proclaimed that it can’t cut down on deforestation except if it was offered monetary impetuses to do as such. Common forestation goes about as an indoor regulator for the earth producing genuinely necessary precipitation and balancing out the measure of hurtful gases in nature yet governments are uninformed or rather decide to remain unconscious of this reality and are concentrating more on actualizing monetary arrangements , empowering bio-fuel sponsorships and carbon catch plans to handle the issue of climatic changes (Summary for Policy Makers, 2007). For residential clients of vitality, instruction and preparing programs should be executed to separate the hesitance of receiving earth neighborly items and to help in making a carbon free condition. For enterprises also staff preparing, rewards framework, mindfulness projects can decrease vitality utilization impressively and diminish the green house gases discharges (Pettifor, 2008). There are sure financial arrangements which can be executed to accomplish the ideal impacts like duties and charges on businesses producing carbon toxicants over a specific given level can be forced which will instigate them to inevitably eliminate dirtying the earth. Willful understandings between the administrations and enterprises just as between creating nations like the Kyoto convention can quicken the reception of innovative advances and cause extensive discharge decreases (Climate Change: Economic Sense and Non-feeling of Carbon Mitigation Policies, 2002). Be that as it may, then again it should be remembered that albeit cruel guidelines and measures and duty burdens may have the ideal impact in the modern part however with regards to local families, who are additionally a significant supporter of condition emanations because of vehicle use and residential warming, we have to thoroughly consider of the case and think of increasingly plausible and handy arrangements Individuals should be persuaded of the need to receive innovation and grasp ‘green appliances’ and for that the principle inspiration is the money related motivation. Larger part of the worldwide populace isn't an early adopter of innovation and for the good of they it should be remembered that they will search for diminished expenses as opposed to being named the most techno-keen individual of the year (Pettifor, 2008). Individuals should be taught instead of constrained into embracing sustainable power source assets. Same goes for the modern division of the rich countries however harsher strategies to eliminate their emanations can be applied too by the legislature. It is the more unfortunate countries that show the most extreme hesitance and are reluctant to co-work in the system to spare the earth from further climatic annihilation. These countries are increasingly worried about their economy since as of now they are a long ways behind the rich countries and on that the universal bodies force limitations on them to eliminate discharges which inevitably mean a restriction on their business activities (Summary for Policy Makers, 2007). The momentary endeavors that are being done to spare the world from an unnatural weather change and ozone consumption are fundamentally a misuse of assets and cash since they will in general have little impact. It is more shrewd to spend all the more yet think of long haul practical arrangements

The Crucible By Arthur Miller - 1829 Words

Humans are inherently drawn to chaos. Humanity is involved in an endless war between madness and logic. Though society attempts to preserve logic and maintain order, a single event can trigger chaos and lead to the deaths of thousands; this has happened several times in every civilization and in every time period, and will continue to happen in the future. One example of this is the Red Scare in the 1900s, which disrupted decades of peace and harmony. The fear of McCarthyism was tangible and widespread; people were accused of being Communists based solely on circumstantial evidence and unfounded suspicions. Reputations and careers were destroyed over simple rumors. In some cases, innocent people were killed. Arthur Miller drew a parallel between the Salem witch trials in the late 1600s and the Red Scare in the 1950s in his novel, The Crucible. Through careful exposition, Miller argues that mayhem and hysteria can occur in any society at any time, and that logic and truth are needed i n order to overcome the dark evil in the world. Underneath the surface, Salem has an extremely rigid theocratic government with an almost cult-like, bitter society, needing only a small trigger to push it to complete chaos. The town of Salem is governed by a theocracy, meaning that God is the ultimate ruler, and reverends are given almost complete power to interpret the bible to their liking and arrest individuals. According to Miller, the theocracy ultimately fails because â€Å"the repressions ofShow MoreRelatedThe Crucible By Arthur Miller1269 Words   |  6 PagesAt first glance, the playwright Arthur Miller in The Crucible highlights the historical significance of the Salem Witch Trials of 1692, but in fact it is an allegorical expression of his perception of McCarthyism. Essay on Analysis of Love Poetry from Different Poets

Analysis of Love Poetry from Different Poets As long as there has been poetry there has been ‘love’ poetry. Many poets express their feelings through their writing, therefore many poets write about love and other emotions and feelings attached to it. Different poets have different styles of writing, so approach that particular subject in different ways. â€Å"I am very bothered† by Simon Armitage, â€Å"I wouldn’t thank you for a Valentine† by Liz Lochhead and â€Å"First Ice† by Andrei Voznesensky are poems where the poet uses different styles of writing. â€Å"I am very bothered.† By Simon Armitage is a confessional monologue. The poet is reflecting on past events, he is addressing a woman he loved as a†¦show more content†¦He wanted to put a ring on her finger for eternity, but different to the ones he put on her finger and thumb. The poem shocked me, I was surprised at the way he got her attention; it seems quite extreme. The ending shocked me too but not in a disturbing sense. He admits that it was a clumsy way to reveal his feelings for her and I was relieved that he realised that. The poem â€Å"I wouldn’t thank you for a Valentine† by the Scottish poet Liz Lochhead gives a negative view on romantic gestures. It is amusing with an ironic look at love and romance. It is the poet’s voice in the poem and she is addressing her lover. The poem is arranged in four blocks of long lines. Unlike the previous poem the poet uses a rhyming pattern, the last word a line rhymes with the last word of the next line for every two lines. The poem is humorous and rhyme is used to enhance the comic aspect. The poet makes you picture all the typical decorations in towns and shopping centres on Valentine’s Day; she makes you picture all the gifts and cards that can be bought for lovers. The poet uses alliteration, â€Å"sticky, sickly saccharine,† for more effect. The poem is mocking but ironic. The poet is trying to persuade you that she does not care about expensive gifts, is she trying to act tough? Possibly, that is until the last two words of the poem. At the end of every verse is theShow MoreRelatedRule Analysis : Poetry By Poetry1353 Words   |  6 PagesRule Analysis: Poetry Introduction Poetry is a genre that expresses feeling through rhythm and tone, while creating a realistic vision of what the poet is imagining. On the one hand they suffer under the high pressure and frequently abusive work environments and on the other hand the stress which is forced by their supervisors if they do not for example manage to produce the expected quality standards. 1.1.2 Working Hours The offense against the observance of working hours points out another example of the inhumane labor conditions at Nikes manufactures. The Code of Conduct foresees a weekly work load of 60 hours. In addition all workers have the right to one day off a week. Further conditions are set down in local employment laws. Overtime hours should only be disposed if necessary and workers have to be remunerated for that. Many suppliers have thus reduced the number of overtime hours so that they confirm to the Code of Conduct. However, workers must now complete the required number of units in a shorter amount of time in order to satisfy the sporting goods manufacturers’ production schedule. â€Å"Workers complained about increased stress caused by tightened production schedules and new production system introduced by management to offset the reduction in working hours.† The reduction of working hours which at first appeared advantageous has apparently turned into a detriment for wor kers. 1.1.3 Remuneration Another example of the inhumane conditions in the Nike factories is the low wages. In Cold Bloods Narrative Style Cold Blood Essay Example For Students

In Cold Bloods Narrative Style Cold Blood Essay Essays In Cold Blood Narrative Style Capotes structure in In Cold Blood is a subject that deserves discussion. The book is told from two alternating perspectives, that of the Clutter family who are the victims, and that of the two murderers, Dick Hickock and Perry Smith. The different perspectives allow the reader to relive both sides of the story; Capote presents them without bias. Capote masterfully utilizes the third person omniscient point of view to express the two perspectives. The non-chronological sequencing of some events emphasizes key scenes. The victims, the murderers, the victims, the murderers, this is the pattern throughout the first two of the three parts of In Cold Blood. During these first two parts of the novel, the reader is gathering pieces of the puzzle leading up to the slaughtering of the Clutter family. Ultimately, the paths of the murderers and their victims come together and climax in the multiple shotgun murders. The alternating perspective enables the reader to assimilate both sides of the story. For example, in part one, Nancy and her music tutee, Jolene Katz, were also satisfied (24). Whereas the next section begins The two young men Dick and Perry had little in common, but they did not realize it, for they shared a number of surface traits (30). This nonfiction work is for the most part unbiased. Capotes extensive research on this real-life event is not marred by his own personal feelings about the crime committed. The fact that he tells both sides of the story adds to the objectivity. Capote doesnt render judgment for two reasons: it is important for the reader to draw conclusions about the philosophical-sociological-psychological circumstances of the mass murder, and Capote concluded that there should be no interference with the readers judgmental process (Reed 107). The narrator, up to the criminals day of execution, shows no bias whatsoever; the trial could have been an easy opportunity for the narrator to express his own opinions on how the criminals should be punished. Capote is adamant in giving the facts to the reader directly and letting the reader formulate his or her own opinion. For example, of the death sentence, Capote writes, In March 1965, after Perry Smith and Dick Hickock had been confined in their death row cells almost two thousand days, the Kansas Supreme Court decreed that their lives must end between midnight and 2:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 14, 1965 (336). The third person point of view also reaffirms Capotes neutrality. In addition, this viewpoint adds credibility to the piece of literature because there are few, if any, dissenting opinions of characters in the story. For example, through characters opinions, the Clutters are presented as highly respected people in the community. In fact, no character has a dislike for the Clutters; even the killers arent motivated by hate. They are motivated by greed. The novel is not written in complete chronological order. Capote makes references to events taking place before the date which the novel begins. For example, Capote discusses occurrences in the two killers childhood after the murder has taken place. The out of place events make the novel flow nicely, and the references to past events keep the reader to more easily comprehend the sometimes complex storyline. This style also provides suspense in the form of foreshadowing. For example, On the first occasion five armed intruders appear at the Clutter Farm, and although they are finally identified merely as pheasant hunters from Oklahoma, their appearance at this time is an ominous sign ( Reed 121). The way in which Capote relays key happenings in the novel is interesting. For example, the first time the reader is informed of how the Clutters are murdered is after the criminals are detained. .ued3b481f1a892d9fa03e4022b0537bf3 , .ued3b481f1a892d9fa03e4022b0537bf3 .postImageUrl , .ued3b481f1a892d9fa03e4022b0537bf3 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ued3b481f1a892d9fa03e4022b0537bf3 , .ued3b481f1a892d9fa03e4022b0537bf3:hover , .ued3b481f1a892d9fa03e4022b0537bf3:visited , .ued3b481f1a892d9fa03e4022b0537bf3:active { border:0!important; } .ued3b481f1a892d9fa03e4022b0537bf3 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ued3b481f1a892d9fa03e4022b0537bf3 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ued3b481f1a892d9fa03e4022b0537bf3:active , .ued3b481f1a892d9fa03e4022b0537bf3:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ued3b481f1a892d9fa03e4022b0537bf3 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ued3b481f1a892d9fa03e4022b0537bf3 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ued3b481f1a892d9fa03e4022b0537bf3 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ued3b481f1a892d9fa03e4022b0537bf3 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ued3b481f1a892d9fa03e4022b0537bf3:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ued3b481f1a892d9fa03e4022b0537bf3 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ued3b481f1a892d9fa03e4022b0537bf3 .ued3b481f1a892d9fa03e4022b0537bf3-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ued3b481f1a892d9fa03e4022b0537bf3:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Bless Me Ultima - Character Analysis EssayIn Cold Blood is a well written account of an American crime due to its narrative style. B Cells

B Cells B cells are white blood cells that protect the body against pathogens such as bacteria and viruses. Pathogens and foreign matter have associated  molecular signals that identify them as antigens. B cells recognize these  molecular signals and produce antibodies that are specific to the specific antigen. There are billions of B cells in the body. Unactivated B cells circulate in the blood until they come in contact with an antigen and become activated. Once activated, B cells produce the antibodies needed to fight against infection. B cells are necessary for adaptive or specific immunity, which focuses on the destruction of foreign invaders that have gotten past the bodies initial defenses. Adaptive immune responses are highly specific and provide long-lasting protection against the pathogens that elicit the response. B Cells and Antibodies B cells are a specific type of white blood cell called a lymphocyte. Other types of lymphocytes include T cells and natural killer cells. B cells develop from stem cells in bone marrow. They remain in the bone marrow until they become mature. Once they are fully developed, B cells are released into the blood where they travel to lymphatic organs. Mature B cells are capable of becoming activated and producing antibodies. Antibodies are specialized proteins  that travel through the bloodstream and are found in bodily fluids. Antibodies recognize specific antigens by identifying certain areas on the surface of the antigen known as antigenic determinants. Once the specific antigenic determinant is recognized, the antibody will bind to the determinant. This binding of the antibody to the antigen identifies the antigen as a target to be destroyed by other immune cells, such as cytotoxic T cells. B Cell Activation On the surface of a B cell is a B cell receptor (BCR) protein. The BCR enables B cells to capture and bind to an antigen. Once bound, the antigen is internalized and digested by the B cell and certain molecules from the antigen are attached to another protein called a class II MHC protein. This antigen-class II MHC protein complex is then presented on the surface of the B cell. Most B cells are activated with the help of other immune cells. When cells such as macrophages and dendritic cells engulf and digest pathogens, they capture and present antigenic information to T cells. The T cells multiply and some differentiate into helper T cells. When a helper T cell comes in contact with the antigen-class II MHC protein complex on the B cells surface, the helper T cell sends signals that activate the B cell. Activated B cells proliferate and can either develop into cells called plasma cells or into other cells called memory cells. Plasma B Cells These cells create antibodies that are specific to a specific antigen. The antibodies circulate in bodily fluids and blood serum until they bind to an antigen. Antibodies debilitate antigens until other immune cells can destroy them. It can take up to two weeks before plasma cells can generate enough antibodies to counteract a specific antigen. Once the infection is under control, antibody production decreases. Some activated B cells form memory cells. Memory B Cells This specified form of B cell enables the immune system to recognize antigens that the body has previously encountered. If the same type of antigen enters the body again, memory B cells direct a secondary immune response in which antibodies are produced more quickly and for a longer period of time. Memory cells are stored in the lymph nodes and spleen and can remain in the body for the life of an individual. If enough memory cells are produced while encountering an infection, these cells can provide life-long immunity against certain diseases. Sources Immune Cells and Their Products. Discover the Definition of a State, Sovereign State, Country, and Nation

Discover the Definition of a State, Sovereign State, Country, and Nation While the terms country, state, sovereign state, nation, and nation-state are often used interchangeably, there is a difference. Simply put: A state is a territory with its own institutions and populations.A sovereign state is a state with its own institutions and populations which has a permanent population, territory, and government. It must also have the right and capacity to make treaties and other agreements with other states.A nation is  a large group of people that inhabit a specific territory and are connected by history, culture or another commonality.A nation-state is a cultural group (a nation) that is also a state (and may, in addition, be a sovereign state). The word country can be used to mean the same thing as state, sovereign state, or nations include Wine Country (the grape-growing area of northern California) and Coal Country (the coal-mining region of Pennslyvania). Qualities of a Sovereign State State, nation, and country are all terms to describe groups of people who live in the same place and have a great deal in common. But while states and sovereign states are political entities, nations and countries may or may not be. A sovereign state (sometimes called an independent state) has the following qualities: Space or territory which has internationally recognized boundariesPeople who live there on an ongoing basis.Regulations governing foreign and domestic tradeThe ability to issue legal tender that is recognized across boundariesAn internationally recognized  government which provides public services and police power and has the right to make treaties, wage war, and take other actions on behalf of its peopleSovereignty, meaning that no other state should have power over the countrys territory. There are many geographic entities that have some but not all of the qualities that make up a There are presently 195 sovereign states in the world (197 by some counts); 193 are members of the United Nations (the United Nations excludes Palestine and the Holy See). Two other entities, Taiwan and Kosovo, are recognized by some but not all members of the United Nations. Entities That Are Not Sovereign States There are many entities that have geographical and cultural significance and many of the qualities of a sovereign state but which are not, in fact, independent sovereign states. These include territories, non-sovereign states, and nations. Non-Sovereign States Territories of sovereign states are not sovereign states in their own right. There are many entities that have most qualities of sovereign states but are officially considered to be sovereign. Many have their own histories, and some even have their own languages. Examples include: Hong KongBermudaGreenlandPuerto RicoNorthern Ireland, Wales, Scotland, and England, all of which are non-sovereign parts of the United Kingdom The word state is also used to refer to geographic sections of sovereign states which have their own governments but which are subject to the larger federal government. The 50 United States are non-sovereign states. Nations Nations are culturally homogeneous groups of people which share a common language, institution, religion, and/or historical experience. Some nations are sovereign states, but many are not; some of those nations that hold territory but are not sovereign states include: The Indian Nations of the United StatesBosniaCatalonia (in northern Spain)QuebecCorsicaSicilyTibet In addition to nations that are non-sovereign states, it can be argued that there are nations that govern no territory at all.  For example, the Sindhi, Yoruba, Rohingya, and Igbo people share histories, cultures, and language but have no territory. There are some States which have two nations, such as Canada and Belgium. Nation-States When a nation of people has a sovereign state of their own, it is called a nation-state. Populations living in nation-states share a history, language, ethnicity, and culture (though, of course, most nation-states now include populations of immigrants who do not share the local culture). Places like Iceland and Japan are excellent examples of nation-states: the vast majority of people born in those nation-states share the same ancestry and culture.

UNIT 6 Discussion Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

UNIT 6 Discussion - Research Paper Example Legalization of Marijuana would have a positive outcome on society. To imagine a United States where marijuana was legal, it is imperative to study the impact of its controlled legalization in the Netherlands. Their policy on soft drugs tolerance has seen a drop in criminal activity and the transfer of marijuana small amounts (Timothy & Goldfinger p2).heroin addiction rates in the Netherlands have gone down by 0.14%, while the crime rate has been falling consistently, coinciding with the relaxation of these laws. While there are obviously differences between the Netherlands and the US, it is clear that the forecasts of social disaster should Marijuana be legalized are misplaced. If legalization of marijuana would mean that hard drug and alcohol usage decreased, then the net outcome would be welcome since the effects of Marijuana on the user and society is less than that of the former two (Timothy & Goldfinger p2). The claim that there would be an increase in Marijuana usage should it be legalized is true to a point. It could, however, be explained by an increase in users willing to admit to marijuana use. Government estimates showing 11.8 million users in the US is conservative, with NORML estimating that close to 50 million users live in the US (Timothy & Goldfinger p2). Therefore, any initial jump can be explained. After legalization, a discouragement campaign could be set up akin to that against tobacco. Age limits for use and purchase would be set up, which is only possible on legalization since illegal dealers will not ask for I.D. In conclusion, the concern should not be on Marijuana, but on tobacco and alcohol. Both have more addictive and deadly indicators. The message obviously is not about concern for society, nor for the user’s health. Rather, it is hypocritical, unintelligible, and biased

Group paper Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Group paper - Essay Example The labor may also be induced, if the water has broken but the contractions have not started yet. The movement and the growth of the baby are monitored after certain intervals. If at any point the health care professionals figures out that the growth of the baby is not at the expected pace then false labor must be induced. Infection in the uterus may also be one of the reasons. If there is not enough amniotic fluid present around the baby or the placenta peels it from the uterus’ inner wall, then labor can be artificially induced by the healthcare professionals. If the mother has any medical condition that may put the baby’s health at risk like diabetes or blood pressure then it is better to induce labor. By doing this the period of the labor might shorten by an hour. This procedure helps in the examination of the amniotic fluid for the presence of meconium that is considered to be the sign for fetal distress. Baby’s scalp must be accessed directly for monitoring the heartbeat of the baby. Stimulating the nipples is considered to be one of the natural forms of labor induction and it can be performed manually or by the help of an electric breastfeeding pump. By doing so the natural production of oxytocin will take place in the female’s body causing contractions. Change theory can be linked to Lewis Theory in a way that it is about unfreezing all the previous information about labor induction and learning the changes imposed by advanced researches and studies. It is important to educate the health care professionals on the advantages and risks associated with induction because they are the ones who are responsible for the wellbeing of the mother and baby. It is important to educate the mother as well, so that she may be able to take informed decision regarding her baby’s health (Simpson & Thorman,

Business game Essay Example for Free

Business game Essay Reflection on Personal Performance in Business Strategy Game Business strategy games involving management process before confirming the decision to be made. Lesson learned taken from the business game, from the process and the content from the case (industry and situation condition of the business). Management Process Planning was the first process taken. Reading and understanding the relevant information was necessary and plays a significant role in planning process. Expectation was established in the planning, and followed stepping process until all aspects have been determined, including all distinctiveness in production (capacity, model, etc. ), transportation (shipping), labor, etc. Planning is critical, and it was indicated in the business strategy games, in which it required quite some time to achieve an agreement. Time was also a factor should be considered, and it drove the discussion on the planning to obtain the agreement. Organizing was also needed in the game to obtain optimal process. One opinion was listened and it organized the discussion and the direction of the process toward certain strategy. Other opinion was taking in to consideration, whether support or as devil advocacy to the strategy. The process also managed by organizing the flow of discussion to center on the strategy with already decided to be focused on. One person plays role as organizer at one time became a source person or follower in the other time. This approach of organizing made the progress of the discussion in the one focal point that describes the strategy taken which leads to the decision. When a member played the role as organizer, then the member did directing the process and content according to the chosen strategy, and also can happened that the strategy can be changed according to the expected result and considering assumption of strategy of the competitors. Some times in the process, one or more member can have their drive going down. In this situation other member did motivated the team to keep up the winning spirit. Controlling was also involved in the process, by focus on one thing and sacrifices in other thing, align with the strategy. These four processes of management were implemented in the process of gaining the final decision and in determining the content to be made (such as production/manufacturing, shipping, labor, price, etc. ), in which the final decision was made by consensus. The experience in the game gives the learning point in practicing of implementing management process, planning, organizing, directing, and controlling. Within a given time, group should be able to do planning (including crafting the strategy, and establish the goal), organizing the process (including agreed on the road map of the process, listening and expressing opinion, and adjusting to the characteristics of the group), directing (including do and accept direction, motivating others, make or initiate decision), and controlling (to be aligned with strategy). Management Functions Strategy plays a critical role in the process, and aim to make the company have differentiation that creates competitive edge compare with the competitors. Decisions are determined align with the chosen strategy. Strategy such as increasing market share and or increasing price to obtain more profit, and or have a low cost production by moving the manufacturing to the low cost location, and or lowering the labor cost, and or increasing the quality of the product, etc. , were became the issues discussed during the process. Any decision made in the process should be linked to the strategy and eventually to the expected result (goal). Marketing management initiatives plays important role in the process. Attention was put in the advertising or promotion program. The decision on the initiatives was made in relation with other initiatives, and initiative should be congruence to be able to reach expected impact. Operations management was also applied, in order to have efficient and low cost production, to be able to lower the price, or put emphasizing in better quality of product and therefore adjust the price to a higher number. Having different locations of manufacturing was also part of consideration in operation management, including the days needed for shipping, and inventory level. Financial management was critical. At the end of the day, the success of the strategy, whether the plan was achieved of not, was determined by facts and figures which was analyzed and interpreted in terms of financial. The situation or condition of the company was considering of profitable, safe or potentially bankrupt, and whether the strategy was effective or not was determined from numbers including financial ratios. Production plan and realization, exchange rate, labor cost, product sold or unsold, inventory level, price, etc. were contributed to the financial condition, and will be analyzed further for determining next strategy (for next run). Human Resource was also had major role in the decision process. Number of labor involved, salary and incentives, were several factors considered in human resource function. During the discussion it was also considered incentive factors as the factor that can boost the motivation of the employees, in which can increase the productivity and eventually proportionally can lower the cost. Experience in the business games told that the management functions will be more effective if it was take into consideration in integrated way. The strategy made was comprise of many functions of management, Working in Teams Team work was a factor that can smooth the progress of the practice toward a productive way. At one time one member took the role as leader, and expressed the idea or opinion which regarded as reference that was supported or argued by other members. The leader than guide or direct the process toward obtaining acceptable or best solution. Other member played role as follower, tried to understand point of view of the leader, and gave opinion to enrich the information for having the decision. In one process it can happened that the role of leader was switch from one member to another member, and lead the discussion toward the decision. Working in team in the business games demonstrated by listening to other opinions or ideas and, gave contribution to the group by doing analysis and expressing constructive argument and idea or opinion to the group. In the process of making group decision, group tried to obtain consensus, with all group members support the decision. Experience and Lesson Taken to Working Place In leading unit in the working place, it is important to have clear goals for the unit, which are determined in the process of performance planning that usually take place at the beginning of the year. The goals comprises of organization (unit) objective, and individual objective which should be clear and measurable (refer to SMART Goals principle) and cascaded from top to bottom, means that the goals are aligned from executive or manager position to staff position. Having a clear goals or expectations will make all employees within the unit know exactly what are expected to be achieved and will make the monitoring of performance become more effective, and eventually it will make the evaluation of the achievement more effective. Leader should be able to define the goals, which reflected what the unit wants to be, particularly for the respective year. For the unit, strategy than decided to define what is the best way to achieve the goals or answering how to get there. Leader should be able to determine the strategy, which should consider of having different way of doing rather than just following the same thing. Strategy should have put into consideration opportunities and obstacles that can potentially will be faced along the year. For the unit performance, flow of work, service level agreement, number of employee, training and development program that will have impact to the quality of work, compensation practice, etc. should be considered in order to have effective strategy. Every people in the organization have potential, and leader should put effort to unleash the potential of the individual and support them to perform in their work. Many initiatives of improvement or programs come from the people in the unit that can give positive impact to the unit. Motivation is needed to keep the work spirit not fall to the lower level. Leader should do coaching to ensure people in the unit understand and on track, make sure that people move to the same direction with same strategy. Every function of management can be implemented to achieve optimum result. Managing the operation implemented to ensure effectiveness and efficiency of work. Human resource management will help in ensuring what unit do are align with the business. Financial management can be implement whether in business or support function, for instance to measure Return on Investment of certain initiatives. As member of management team, we should contribute in a positive way by giving opinion and ideas, or doing what has been decided productively. Discussion should be conducted in conducive way, listen what other people say and express opinion to reach to the decision. When decision has been made, member should follow and committed to perform the decision in effectively. Success of the unit is also determined by the competency, performance, and contribution of the members. To have an optimum result, member should be able to look the purpose as unit purpose not individual purpose. This principle can create synergy between members in the team and can contribute more to the performance of the team. The business strategy games provide inspiration that can be applied in the working situation. Having competitors that can affect the result of one group convey the message that in establishing standard, one unit should not look into inside factors, but should also consider outside factors. The capability of the unit can be seen differently and will lead to different goals and strategy. Strategy can be different if the external condition is supportive and indicates opportunity and will be different if the external conditions are not accommodating. Macro and micro analysis can be conducted to have a more comprehensive analysis for obtaining effective and right decision. In setting the plan, company should define first what is their mission statement or strategic vision. This mission statement is a statement which indicates the purposes and activities of the company’s business/goals in brief, clear and focus words. Along with mission statement, company must clearly define its objectives quantitatively within certain period. From these quantitative objectives, company could set a realistic and attainable long term strategic planning to allocate budget and resources in the company. In strategic planning, company should define clearly its target market, financial objective and competitive position among the industry. This strategic planning will be the direction of the company in running its business. After setting the strategic planning, company should design an organization structure to manage the company effectively, by designating persons who will in charge in each roles and held responsibility in each area of the business in the company (marketing, finance, operation, sales and so on), especially the person who will be responsible as the leader of the company (as CEO). The role of CEO is very essential because he/she must lead company to the right direction in implementing company strategy to achieve company’s objectives. From the clear and effective organization structure, CEO and management will have clear legitimation and authority in directing all resources in the company to implement the company’s strategy. Finally, the company should closely and intensively controlling and monitoring the performance of the strategy during implementation to assess its progress against the pre-defined targets and ensure that all the company elements were doing their parts and responsibility in the right track. About Management Functions In a company, management should establish the right and important functions which will run the company operational activities, define what are the responsibilities of each functions and ensure that each functions performed in accordance with the company objectives. In order to give more value to the company in terms of profitability, management should work together to set a strategy in making company’s output (product or services) more competitive in the market by considering all aspects involved. As an example, to gain more profitability company could set pricing strategy to be higher or lower compare to market but before decided the price, company should consider other aspects such as costs, quality and resources needed in creation of the product or services. About Working in Teams In working as a team member in the company, it is very important to determine a clear designation about who will act as the leader and the follower. Because if there’s no clear designation, potentially will cause the resources in the company to move to the wrong direction and this will destruct company effort in achieving its objectives. As a leader, a person should show the ability to manage and to coach the entire team member to do their tasks properly, and he/she should has willingness to listen and appreciation to his/her followers insights at the same time. And as a follower, one should give respect to the leader and obey the leader decisions. But it is important too for the company to define what is the follower assignment and designation, because if it is not clearly defined, the follower couldn’t perform nor contributed optimally in attaining company’s objective process. What I plan to do in my work place from the experience and lessons I took from the BSG are : As the leader of my unit I will put more effort to be an effective and efficient leader of my unit and will put more awareness to all my team member that our jobs especially in designing the most efficient operational work flow in my company has essential impact in saving the company budget and optimizing company resources which will contributed in achieving the company’s objective especially in financial aspect and giving more value to the customer and shareholder. And furthermore I will spend more time and effort to evaluate designation and job description for each member of my team, to put the right person to the right job and responsibility. If the designation and job description were not fit or not clear to the team member, it will impact to the performance of the working unit itself because each team member do not know exactly what is their role in their working unit. As a member of my management team I will put more consideration and attention about financial impact of any decision that my management made. From the BSG, I see that all activities in each working unit must be contributed and affected to the company strategic planning especially in achieving financial goals. And I will put more respect to any member and any decision of my management team made, even though sometimes the decision seems to be hard to be implement, I will try to see it from wider perspective that the decision must be made deliberately and considered many important aspects which ending is to give more value for the company.

Global Warming Essay -- Environmental Global Climate Change

Global Warming First discovered at the turn of the century by the Swedish scientist Arrhenius, global warming was initially thought to only cause increased greenhouse gases from coal combustion emissions. It wasn’t until fifty years later that the real causes and effects of global warming would be discovered. A British scientist by the name of Calendar correlated the 10% increase of atmospheric Carbon Dioxide between 1850 and 1940 with the observed warming of northern Europe and North America, which began in the 1880's. As for the cause of global warming, scientists generally believe that both the combustion of fossil fuels and other human activities are the primary reason for the increased concentration of carbon dioxide. Human activities such as the burning of coal, oil, and natural gas contribute heavily to global warming. Other major causes include deforestation, methane gas emissions, and the release of nitrous oxide chemicals into the atmosphere. The gasses are released primarily by rice cultivation, cattle and livestock populations, gas pipelines, and landfills. Deforestation is a big problem as far as global warming because trees remove Carbon Dioxide from the atmosphere, but release large quantities when burned. Methane gas emissions contribute because they are trapped in the earth’s atmosphere and reflect light, which is usually released in a clean, healthy atmosphere. The energy burned to run cars and trucks, heat homes and businesses, and power factories is responsible for about eighty percent of society's carbon dioxide emissions, about twenty-five percent of U.S. methane emissions, and about twenty percent of global nitrous oxide emissions. The evidence of global warming has been a care and concern ... ...problem will only garner with time. New and more efficient programs need to be developed as well as alternate methods of energy production because the methods now are not efficient enough to be able to cut pollution and waste by a significant amount. Possibly over time, such changes can be made and goals achieved so that we can live in a cleaner, healthier world. Works Cited Cowie, J. (1998). Climate and Human Change: Disaster or Opportunity? If Othello had been set in a modern era, how would it differ Essay

The play Othello is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare in around 1603. The story has four central characters: Othello, Desdemona, Iago and Cassio. Othello or â€Å"the moor† is a black general, admired for his superb leadership skills. He falls in love with Desdemona, and against Brabantio’s will they elope before embarking on a campaign against the Turks. However, in Cyprus, a storm destroys the Turkish fleet and the real battle turns out to be the one of Iago against Othello. Iago’s hatred for Othello is mainly caused by his anger at missing out on a promotion added to his racism. This leads to his revenge on the protagonist. In this assessment, I am going to analyse how the play would have differed if it had been set in a modern era. The play opens with a heated discussion between Iago and Roderigo. Iago complains about Othello’s decision to promote Cassio as lieutenant. He confesses that he only remains in service of the general in order to succeed in his evil plan: â€Å" I follow him to serve my turn upon him† act 1 sc 1 l. 42. Othello is described as â€Å"the moor†. This epithet often substitutes his actual name â€Å"Othello†. Moreover, Roderigo describes Othello’s with terms such as: â€Å"thick lips†, â€Å"old black ram† and â€Å"devil† Act 1.sc 1. An Elizabethan audience would not have frowned upon the use of these terms, not finding them disturbing, offensive as it would be in our politically correct, multicultural and mobile society where distances between cultures and races have been significantly reduced. It also important to point out that there were few blacks in London during that period; there is evidence to prove this as the rise of black settlements in London occurred only during the 17th- 18th Century. Christianity further exacerbated these racial ideas as it linked the colour white to goodness and the colour black to the devil and sin. Shakespeare shows that he was open and a brave writer who was willing to stand apart from his society, choosing to make a black individual his protagonist. This choice makes him the tragic hero who the audience is encouraged to sympathize with. The second difference that rises between an Elizabethan Othello and a hypothetical modern Othello is the power men have over women. This can be seen immediately in Act 1 Scene 3 with regards to Brabantio and Desdemona. Othello’s true love for Desdemona is not accepted by Desdemona’s father, who accuses him of having used witchcraft to control Desdemona’s feelings. â€Å"She is abused, stol’n from me, and corrupted By spells [†¦] For nature so preposterously to err, Being not deficient, blind, or lame of sense Sans witchcraft could not† Act 1 Scene 3 lines 59 -64 Not only does Brabantio believes that Desdemona belongs to him as if she was of his property, her elopement disturbs him even more knowing that Othello is black. Brabantio cannot fathom how the beautiful and gentle Desdemona is attracted to the black Othello. The only way he can justify this relationship is by accusing Othello of having practiced spells against her. These accusations can be seen as typical of that time- average Londoners, such as those who attended and enjoyed Shakespeare’s plays, had very little knowledge about science and relied on popular ‘wisdom’ and religious doctrines to support their beliefs. A modern audience with a more global outlook would not hold – or be loath to admit to- even though racism has not been eradicated. In modern times the power Brabantio has over choosing his daughter’s husband would also not be accepted. Today in most western countries, it is considered a right for women to choose their own partner. The fac t that Desdemona and Othello elope and show a romantic and poetic union: â€Å"Desdemona: That I did love the Moor to live †¦ with him, My downright violence and storm of fortunes May trumpet to the world: my heart’s subdued Even to the very quality of my lord: I saw Othello’s visage in his mind, And to his honour and his valiant parts Did I my soul and fortunes consecrate.† act1 sc3 line 245 demonstrates Shakespeare’s modern thinking and the independency from accepted views and beliefs of the time. The third important factor that would distinguish from an Elizabethan Othello from a modern Othello regards the character of Emilia. Emilia is Iago’s wife and Desdemona’s close friend. Iago uses this friendship to get access to Dedemona, in particular, asking her to steal Desdemona’s handkerchief (a gift from Othello to Desdemona). Emilia does this to â€Å" please his fantasy † even though she admits â€Å"What he will do with it,/ Heaven knows, / not I† Act 3 scene 3 line 290. and the consequences of her actions lead to tragic developments, which have vital importance in the play. From this quote we can see Iago’s hold over Emilia and how she honours her duty as a wife- something that would puzzle us even though there are also women nowadays who are at the mercy of their husbands and do not leave destructive relationships. However, as the play unfolds, particularly in the last two acts we increasingly note that Emilia is an ambiguous character: she is Iago’s victim but also has a strong opinion about men and women that is now reflected in modern society. â€Å"Emilia: But I do think it is their husbands’ faults If wives do fall: say that they slack their duties, And pour our treasures into foreign laps, Or else break out in peevish jealousies, Throwing restraint upon us; or say they strike us, Or scant our former having in despite; Why, we have galls, and though we have some grace, Yet have we some revenge. Act 4 sc 3 line 16† This would probably be a feeling shared by Elizabethans but in reverse- they would identify Emilia as a faithful wife initially but would probably be confused and maybe even shocked by her words to Desdemona and equality between men and women when it comes to desire. In conclusion, we can say that elements of the plot would have undergone marked changes if Othello had been written in modern, politically correct times. Brabantio wouldn’t be making such a drama out of the fact that his daughter has married a black man; Emilia wouldn’t be stealing at the command of her husband and racist terms would not have been used by noblemen and colleagues. If the play had been set in modern times, it wouldn’t be the same play and perhaps it wouldn’t be as exciting and powerful either. Despite the fact that the play was written hundreds of years ago and we think that things have changed, racism and sexism haven’t ended and Shakespeare’s play makes us think.
